In week seven of poetry class, we had fun reading haiku poems and drawing winter scenes to help inspire our own haiku poems – a short three line poem that creates an image of nature. For this round of haikus, I asked the students to only focus on writing three short lines of poetry. We will revisit haikus in the spring to learn more about writing haikus in the “5-7-5” syllable format.
Each week there will be 3 poems from each class published to our Hands on Stanzas blog, and every student will have an opportunity to see their written work published on our blog in the weeks to come.
