Get ready for a rainbow of poetry! First graders have been talking more and more about what makes poetry poetry. In Monday’s class, we talked about how poetry can be a way of playing with words. We practiced this idea by connecting colors to emotions, activities, and other inventions of our imaginations!

orange is a witch
purple is happy
purple is flowers inside the house,
and birds, butterflies, blankets, and pajamas
blue and yellow is when me and my mom sit on blue and yellow chairs
and we have blue and yellow snacks and color blue and yellow things
gold is coloring trees
orange is my christmas tree
pink and gray is decorating my cute pink christmas tree
I put a nice yellow star at the top
yellow is very shiny
so everywhere is very golden
so I’m yellow rich
red is a heart
blue is the sky
red is standing on magma
blue is crying and tears
red is burning fire being put out by water
blue is watching my favorite TV show Bluey
pink is a tree, strawberry milk, and one of my favorite candies, a pink lollipop
green is relaxing with my mom and my brothers
green is running to the ice cream shop to get some green mint ice cream
