What’s On Your Mind?

Hello again! Last week’s session was a tender look at what’s been occupying our minds and hearts lately. After sharing some words of wisdom to our past selves, we watched a performance “Thinking About You” by Mike Taylor. Students talked a bit about how much they enjoyed the poem and the wealth of similes it gave the listener. We also talked about Mike’s performance style and what we could learn from him as we think about how we read our poems aloud. Finally, we wrote poems about people or things we can’t get off our minds. As we build our performance skills, students will be sharing recordings of their voices for the CPC community. Check out a student poem below:

Thinking About You

by Isis R.

Your smile is so bright

like the sun

On a warm

spring day

Your laugh is like

music on a

gloomy stormy

night

Your hugs are so warm

like a cup

of cocoa

on a cold, snowy night

Our conversations

stay on my mind

like a never ending

record stuck on loop

The thought of you

is like the light

in a never ending

darkness

Your voice is

like a soft melody

in a slow dance

So romantic, so slow

You are so sweet

like a strawberry cake

decorated with the freshest

strawberries, handpicked by

the best people

Your love is like

a rare kind of stone

found in the deep

mountains, so hard to find

I want to be with you

like glue wants to stick

to paper

Never wanting to let go

I love you so much <3 <3 <3
