Using Your Common Senses

The poets from Mrs. Thomas’s afterschool poetry program wrote about the 5 senses. This collaborative activity focused on 2 ways of using the senses; metaphorically and descriptive. In the first stanza, poets used the 5 senses to describe their siblings. In second stanza poets metaphorically use the senses.

My sister smells like fresh laundry

my brother sounds like he’s dying cat

my sister looks like a teeny-weenie elf

My sister feels as hard as a rock

my sister tastes like ranch dressing

I see your worth

I can taste your guilt

l can smell your happiness

I can feel your pain

I can hear your excitement
