Paint me…

Starting off our poetry class at Smyser Elementary, we looked at a poem by Delia Garcia titled “Paint Me Like I Am” (workshop adapted by another PIR, Joy Young). These young poets learned about lines, stanzas, and repetitions as we explored painting with words through our poetry. Each poet created their own self-portrait poem. Here are some of the poems from each class:

Draw me as gentle
as a butterfly
I want to look
gentle, Draw
me with color,
Colors that make me shine
like a butterfly, give me
wings so I could
soar through the sky
Make me with the
most beautiful details,
Make me as beautiful
as a butterfly.

Crosby C., Paint Me
I want to be painted
Oh, will you, please.
Paint me with sushi.
Paint me watching my favorite show.

Please, oh, please don’t paint
me with carrots…
Don’t paint me with a weird
dress.
I want to be in a suit if
I have to wear something
fancy.

Tulips, roses, daisies, sunflowers.

I want to be with my
friends, don’t make me alone.

Paint me with good thoughts
