Last Day Poetry Surprises

This past Tuesday was Twain 4th graders last day of poetry for 2024. I’m so proud of all they accomplished in 10 weeks. We’ve had 10 weeks of not just writing poetry, but bonding with each other, and creating fun memories. To celebrate, I gave students bookmarks and colorful ribbons to decorate. I told students they could decorate their bookmarks using favorite lines from their own poems, poems from famous poets we read in class, or a classmate’s poem. A few students even came up with brand new poems on the spot to design their bookmarks.

We watched video clips from the previous Winter’s All Schools Readings and those who participated from Twain last year saw how far they have grown with their poetry. After putting the finishing touches on their bookmarks, students had a chance to read parts of their poems on my little blue microphone and speaker.

At the end of the day, I was surprised with gifts from 4th grade teachers and students. Students wrote me a fantastic letter poem to me and signed their names. It felt so wonderful feeling appreciated.

Below are photos of the gifts I received, a few past poems and artwork from students, with bookmarks from each class. There were so many unique bookmarks, I wish I could have included all of them.

Happy Holidays Twain 4th graders and Teachers. I hope the New Year 2025 gives you loads happiness and exciting new adventures. Love, Ms. Joy 🎄❤️✨🎉
