Field Trip to Ronan Park

We had an exciting week at Haugan Elementary School! Instead of our normal classroom day, we went on a field trip to Ronan Park! We partnered with the North River Commission to write ekphrastic poems (or poems about a piece of art) about the sculpture garden there! We then did readings of our poems, did readings of our poems, and then decorated the park with lines from our own poems or a favorite poem we read during the semester. It was a beautiful day! Here is one of the ekphrastic poems that students shared!

Beacon’s Trees
Johanna
The face makes me
feel like their head
is filled with trees. All they
do is have ideas. Stuck
in their head. Growing
like a tree. Smelling
all the fresh ideas. All
and everything. The ideas
are finally here. They need the
rain of support. But their
hair of trees make
ideas grow.
