After a long break from poetry, Brennemann’s first graders had lots of ideas to share about what happens in winter. These poems are filled with sights, sounds, textures, tastes, and smells from the coldest time of the year!

Winter makes me happy in my heart.
I hear cold wind,
snowy wind,
blowing wind,
whooooo!
I love to feel the air.
I see white snow, snowflakes,
little, small snowballs.
I taste a cold snowflake.
I feel gloves on my hands.
I see someone
building a snowman with two eyes,
a snowman with 3 flat circles,
and snow on the ground.
I see a stick nose,
a snowman with a black hat,
orange scarf, blue gloves,
an orange nose, and black eyes.
I feel the cold snow when I play
en el parque con mi hermanito,
haciendo una casa de nieve.
I see a snowy house, like a real snow house.
I see snow on the houses,
una casa y un árbol.
En mi casa,
puedo ver un árbol mediano, poquito grande
decorado con luces de coloridos.
Me gusta quedarme en la casa,
jugar tranquilo
con mi amigo y mi familia.
I taste rico, caliente carne con pollo.
I taste rico coffee.
I smell my mom’s chocolatey hot chocolate
I smell chocolatey snow
I taste amazing hot chocolate,
like chocolate milk with marshmallows.
Winter makes me happy in my heart.

Salimos en suéter cuando hace mucho frío.
I see icy snow.
I am building a big snowman with long arms.
Snow is everywhere!
It’s super snowy outside.
I see my family playing in the snow
and I want to play with them.
I slide on the mountain of snow
with blue and red sleds.
I see my breath,
looks smoky and white.
I taste sweet hot cocoa in a Christmas cup.
I love hot cocoa.
It tastes sweet like chocolate.
