Bravery Poems

In Ms. Reed’s third grade class, we read Maya Angelou’s “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me at All.” We talked about how bravery doesn’t mean that you’re never afraid, it just means that you figure out how to face what’s scary, even if you have butterflies in your belly! We practiced stretching out our ideas and adding details by writing a poem as a class about a Spider Snake Monster! The students then wrote their own poems about what helps them be brave.

I'm Not Scared Leith

I’m not scared of the dark
because I turn on the light
and I’m not scared of the
bees because I can give
the bees honey and just run away.

The Monster Under My Bed Sojal

Sometimes I feel like
a hand is going to get me
and I feel some one
breathing under my bed
but I don’t feel frightened
because my blanket feels like
it is protecting me from the monster.
