Blue Wall

This week we had a Sharing Day. Each student chose one poem from their portfolio to read aloud to the class. Many students chose their most recent poem written in response to the translations we read of Kabir’s “The Clay Jug.”

I Think About
Javaris G.

I think about my dad
I’m looking at a blue wall
and then at the fan
blowing cold air.

I close my eyes and
I see
the dark and
I feel relaxed.

Late Night Thoughts
Morgan S.

In my bed
at night the light of my closet
lights the room
getting rid of uneasiness

dreaming about if
the unnatural really exists
or is it just
another story told.

In My Bed
Cahliyah A.

In my bed
under my blanket
colored blue like sky
thinking about nothing
but what about tomorrow

In my bed
laying on a comfortable mattress
that feels soft like fur
with feelings for days of life

The Moon On My Shelf
Hunter C.

After every worksheet, newspaper
and story read, I turn to my shelf
where my small moon stands.

After every book, essay and
note written, I turn to my shelf
where my small moon stands.

After every play, movie and
video watched, I turn to my shelf
where my small moon stands.

After every rewrite, failure and
redo, I turn to my shelf
where my small moon stands.

But what does a moon do
for a man so blue? Does it smell
like a rose or hop around
cheering my mood?

It does none of this, yet I
watch the little moon on my shelf.
