Couplets are a common rhyme scheme used in poetry and, especially in rap music. They are two lines of poetry that rhyme. After listening to lyrics performed by the Tupac Shakur and Bad Bunny the young poets took their turn writing raps. They wrote couplets talking about what most rappers talk about…themselves. Put on some instrumentals and read aloud!

I like to play video games
And I like to play with my choo choo trains
I like to play soccer
And I get my ball from the locker
I like the park
Like I like the water park
I like McDonald’s
Like I like Ronald McDonald
Jennifer
My name is Jennifer and I like to sleep
And guess what I like to eat
But I don’t like the deep sea
I don’t like to be seen

I like to pay volleyball
In the Fall
I like to do my nails
They do them like snails
I like crocs
I can wear my messy socks
I like texting
when resting
I like eating
Then sleeping
Soy Mexicana
Me gusta La Michoacana
I like corn
Since I was born
Adrian
hi my name is Adrian everything is crazy
From my perspective this is what I see
Disappointment is everywhere I go
In this city of Chicago
Trapped in a cycle
Nonstop shouting I’m going psyco
Jazi
Jazi that is me
I’m getting things for free
When I see the sea
I guarantee you can trust me
Jaz had got caught by the fuzz
And years become crumbs
Mylene
I’m as smart
as a tart
I like the wind
And I always win
I go to school
To not be a fool
I’m not trash
And I don’t have a rash
I’m jumping on the bed
But never bump my head
Angel
I like soccer
And Neymar is a big flopper
I like to sleep
Maybe count some sheep
I wear Jordan 4’s
Maybe go on the floors
I was in 2011
May bars are sent from heaven
