Not but hours ago, Lawndale traveled around the world and the US in a workshop inspired by Joy Young’s travel poetry lesson and John Balaban’s “Passing Through Albuquerque”. We started with a game of Name That Place, where students had to guess and identify cities from around the world based on a collage of images. This ended with a spirited discussion of what a Chicago collage would and should include. Balaban’s words helped us further explore what makes a place beyond its name and geography, from the weather to the people. Below you’ll find their descriptions of places around the country and the world.
