At Henry Elementary, I visited two new classrooms with Mrs. Carrion! We read Clint Smith’s “Counting Descents” and discussed imagery, enjambment, and the use of repetition and counting in Smith’s poem! Student were tasked with counting off things that they loved to create their own poems!

I love my dad
He’s always there for me
Taking care of me
Supports me and my goals.
Baking with my mom is my favorite
I love cakes,
Especially the ones she makes
Spending time with her makes my day
makes everything go away.
Playing soccer with my brother is the best
We’re always on a quest
After playing we get food
Chic-fil-a is a must
The food is such a bust.

My favorite person is my mom,
her crunchy hair
her nicknames for me
her cooking makes me want to fly away
my friends are so silly
and full of laughter.
playing volleyball I enjoy,
when the ball goes to you and you bump
the senses I miss or make a point in.
Hanging out with my friends
and spending are two different things
their both super fun but only one hurts my pockets
my house is your house they say.

My favorite people are the people in my
family, the people I love were always there for
me, my grandmother my grandfather my mother my cousins,
my friend.
I love them like I love my hobbies
my guitar, my skateboard, drawing, soccer
were always there always there when I needed
it the most
things I wish weren’t true in my
life are homework and those scary
fears everyone at least had once to be
abolished from our lives
I know there’s a lot to come for my
future.

My mom’s bright pink cheeks
