Where I Can Be Me: Place Poems at Darwin

Happy almost back from Spring Break! This past week at Darwin, we focused on poems about places and how places, whether the laundromat or IHOP or our backyards, are important to telling our stories. Here are this week’s poets:

Fire Pitch

I like the Fire Pitch because
that is where I have soccer games
and soccer practice. That
is where I shot on the goalkeeper.
is where my team is and is where I win
and lose and score goals
and where I become the champion

Yo tengo un unicornio de peluche

Yo tengo un unicornio de peluche
y me gusta mucho que yo duermo con el todo el dia
y es grande y tambien es de colores
y me gusta mucho, que es bonita

I have a unicorn stuffed animal
I like it a lot because it is with me when I sleep every day
It is big and of many colors
I love it a lot, it is beautiful

My Back Yard

I like my back yard because when it is summer
I can read out side. I can play with my sister.
I can roller skate outside.
I can scooter outside
I can play soccer. I can play sports.
I can play with my bikes.
I can help my mom to pick leaves
in fall and clean a path
for people to walk in winter
when there is snow
when i read, birds go fly.

Davonte

I am most happy at my uncle’s
house. it feels like
there’s other kids
to play with.
it feels like home
There’s things to do, games to play,
create, imagine

Where I Feel Happy

Puerto Rico, there’s a lot of animals.
But sometimes there are hurricanse
I love my family, but some of my family
is there. All the food is delicious.
And there is a little sea next to my house.
First I was in Puerto Rico, then
the first hurricane was in front of my house.
But everyone was okay

The Pool

The Pool keeps me calm
Once I got splashed and got out
My mom was swimming with me.
I jumped in.
It was fun.

At the beach!

I feel happy at the beach
I feel happy when I swim in the water
I can feel the sand; it feels good.
The air is cotton candy; it tastes good.
The ground is sand but candy lava
The cars are lollipops
The ocean is red blood
