This week at Moos, we read “Uknown Father” by Vietnamese-American poet, Thanhha Lai. The students learned the Vietnamese and French words that were in the poem and we talked about the food we eat at home and the memories we have with food. The students made web diagrams to link food and memories together, then we used the five senses to help structure our poems. This exercise made everyone ready for lunch afterward!

The Takis Challenge
Aramis R.
One day, my friend Adrien
challenged me to a Taki
Challenge. A Taki Challenge
is when you have to eat
1 Taki and if you
think it’s not hot enough,
then you eat 2 Takis–
but at the same time!
And so on and so on.
They taste like a
spicy pepper with
a touch of lime.
We went to the
grocery store with
his mom, Denise.
We grabbed the
gigantic bag!
Tamales
Amaris D.
Tamales can be pink green and red,
some are spicy, some are sweet. They
taste so good and really neat. So good
and what a nice treat. My favorite
one is green: spicy and good. We all know
what we like to eat and it’s neat.
