Today, we read Naomi Shihab Nye’s “The Red Brocade” and discussed the way the poem tries to take care of the reader and the generous ways it makes offerings to us. We talked about how poems can or can’t help others and decided that poems can do a lot in the world! Here are some poems we wrote as we thought about how we care for others.
I Play with...
--Noble
I play with my four year old friend
on the slide. She chases me
in front of my friends. And I scream and dodge her
to make her laugh.
I like to take care of my sister
--Diego
I like to take
care of my sister
by playing video games
and playing with my
sister's toys and drawing
and making challenges
and also playing
lego and playing fun
games in the park and
in the road.
I will take care of my mom
--Sosan
If my mom is sick I will
make her food in bed
and make
sure she is comfortable
with her blanket.
I'll make a comfy
fort so she can
sleep safely and if
she's okay to sleep inside
where it is so
comfy. I'll make sure sh
will feel better tomorrow
so she can move
around and do what she usually
does all the time like normal.
