‘Griffins, changelings, alicorns, unicorns, pegasus’ and ‘It/ made us feel like/ movie stars’: Children’s Television Poems

What TV shows did we cherish when we were young? What did we learn from them? What makes a hero (both real or imagined), and how can we learn from them (even the villains) and the inner- hero inside of us? We explored those concepts and more in What I Learned From The Incredible Hulk by Amiee Nezhukumatahil.

Lesson Note: Have you heard? Recently a Harvard social scientist found that posing like a superhero increases confidence and creates lasting positive change! Superman actor Christopher Reeve noted, ‘I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”  And singer Bob Dylan adds: ‘I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with their freedom.”

What I Learned from My Little Pony

by Audra M.

Friendship is magic

It flows through the air like a steady breeze

Every pony united through unbreakable odds.

Hoofs clicking

Wings flapping

Horns poking

Magic swooshing

Each pony is unique,

With curie-marks prove it

Every pony has a special talent

They just need to find it

Not just ponies,

Griffins, changelings, alicorns, unicorns, pegasus

and many, many more

Friendship is key

And magic makes it all complete.

Mickey Mouse!

By Caelan G.

“I’m Micky Mouse & I have lots of

friends. Mickey Mouse is a TV show

, or is it real? Well, you can decide

That on your own!

“Be kind to our friend, Pete.” Pete was the

bad guy, but in every kid’s TV show, they

become friends. “Uh-Oh!” We gotta move these

sheep! They problem-solve.

Micky Mouse is a mouse that wears

red shorts & yellow shoes. A tiny, tiny tail.

A smile on his face, no matter what.

Can I say “Misca, Mosca, Micky Mouse”?

Is that Donald? Can I see him? OOH!

Can I move into your house? Please!

TV Show Poem

by Jovani H.

What I learned from Spongebob Squarepants

is to always have fun and to explore new things

and always be nice.

Even when you mess up-keep going

Always be nice to everyone; if someone

is sad, help them out.

Spongebob would wear square pants

and his square pajamas.

What’s it like in Bikini Bottom?

What fun do you have?

Is Krusty Krab a good workplace?

What I Learned from The Amazing World of Gumball

by Sloan L.

Every day is a new day filled with laughter and love

Friends, family, and amusement

In our world, everyone is so different

yet still the same.

Fur as blue as the ocean scales orange as the sand

together, we sit, hand in hand

The sun is setting, and here I lay

My mother and I, at the end of the day.

Together, we dream, together we learn

together, we think of the love we yearn

my brother and I.

TV Show Poem: Paw Patrol

by Kendall D.

As I lay, Ryder and I

are talking about his

dogs that have so

many gifted talents

We were wearing shiny

vests that shined like

limestones. The whole

town could see us. It

made us feel like movie

stars.

He found how to be a

help to our community like

a vacuum is to the carpet

we learned how to respect

each other, like a true friend

does.

These friends of mine taught

me my life lessons that

I am currently doing

now.
