All Good Things… 7th Grade

Well, this is always a bittersweet time of year, as we come to the end of our residency sessions.

For my last session with Mr. Reinholdt’s amazing 7th grade class, we spent the time handing back poems, and watching a few videos of young people from the LA poetry based non-profit, Get Lit, performing their poetry.

I invited students to write a letter to themselves, from their future self, offering a few words of wisdom, encouragement and guidance. Again, because these leaned toward the personal, I won’t share them here.

I wanted to give Mr. Reinholdt a huge shoutout, for being one of the coolest English teachers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. The trust and confidence you instill in your students is such a gift.

To your 2024 7th grade class, I want to say thank you for putting in the work and showing up for yourself over the course of our time together! I was completely blown away by your growth as poets during our residency. It was such a delight, to watch you make intentional choices, in your writing, week after week, and to read your stories. Thank you for sharing them with me.

Have a great summer!
