Last week we got started on poems inspired by Joy Harjo’s piece “Perhaps The World Ends Here”, while some students chose to write ode poems to things they love or admire. We spent some more time in this session working on those pieces and polishing them up. Enjoy this week’s poets!
Strawberry
Daranae D.
Strawberries
shaped like a bright red heart
it’s so lovely
has water that drips like falling
raindrops
raindrops so calm and clear you
can see the bursting red ready
for you to eat
Chocolate on it making it so
much more delicious
I love the way it tastes inside
of fluffy stuffed cupcakes and
cake.

The night of my life is at the
kitchen table for dinner, no matter what,
we must eat. The presents on earth
are presented on the table. I have to
move my dog away from the table
so my delicious food wouldn’t get
eaten. The dreams I think of
the thoughts I think, reflects
when I eat. At this table we
pray, we stay at the table until
we’re finished with our food.
At this table we talk, we play card
games after eating, we play around,
we make jokes. At this table we
bring joy and positive thoughts.
After, I go back and eat more!!
The Table
Dayshaun R.
The table
full of memories
gossiping with my mother
crazy, quiet, dull thoughts
Always something to talk about.
Pray at the table
cry, fight, or laugh
It holds so much memories
Sad, calm, nice, forgetful
The table with always be full of memories.
