This week’s lesson was borrowed from fellow poet-in-residence Lisa Low. During our discussion, students shared some their icks with the group. Some of these included loud food chewers and dishonesty, and students definitely didn’t hesitate sharing them. After reading some rant poems from other student poets, our group dove into our writing time. Check out some of them below:
Silence
by Amorionna
A silent room yet
slight clicking, scratching
and picking at my brain
like a cat on the scratch-board.
I want you to stop but not to be
rude. “Could you stop?” I want to
yell it but I hold my tongue. Click.
Click. Click. Sounds like my brain bomb
going tick. tick. tick. Counting down
the minutes wishing it would end.
I hold my breath. And pull my hair.
I cover my mouth to muffle my
internal screams… Till finally… “Would
you please stop clicking that pen?”
Long Forgotten
by Molly
Don’t you remember me?
Like a river in the distance
A friendship long forgotten
Me and your daddy go wayyyyy back
like acid trying to be engraved in my memory
