Monster Class

For our 13th sessions, Swift 2nd graders had fun with Dennis Lee’s poems, “I Eat Kids, Yum Yum.” They played with voices and imagined long lists of monsters and their characteristics, before writing their own monster poems. Enjoy!

Angry Monster
by Shradha N.

My monster is purple with
blue hair. Smells like nothing. Says
“Get lost.” Eats takis every time. And
one day a girl (me) wanted some
of his takis. The monster lived in a creepy house up the
Bad Will Hill. His house was filled
with takis. That made me want his
whole entire creepy house.

Anjila K.

A Stack of Diapers Monster came in
my room. It smelled disgusting.
It looked creepy. It waved “hi” to me.
It had eight legs and five eyes.
It was waiting for me under my bed.
He waited when I went to the bathroom.

Clown Monster
by Ayza U.

It looks like a clown with a face
that is blue-ish and green-ish, and has
red curly hair.
It does unthinkable
stunts. It says “People, people,
I am a Clown Monster.
Don’t be afraid of me.
I will not do anything to you!” He made me laugh.
He is really funny.

Sirenhead
by Lohi A.

It looks like tall people.  The hair is
made of bones. It’s made of bones.
The monster lives in a forest.  My monster
eats people. When you hear a loud sound
like a siren, and it stomps its feet, my
monster smells like trash and disgusting.
The monster’s color is peach and brown.
My monster fights with godzilla. My monster
drinks blood and water. My monster hates people
so he eats people.

Fog Monster
by Delphina O.

Fog Monster lives in the air.
Fog Monster is invisible.
No one sees him so he tricks them.
By saying their name he leaves them alone
and goes off after 1 week.

But after 21 years he went missing
and no one saw him again.
People say that the legend is true.
But he is never gone. His spirit is still in
there. Mmmmwahaha!

Rose Monster
by Mishika S.

The Rose Monster lived in
paradise with the angels.
She sprung roses everywhere.
Petals coming out of their
tears.

The Sea Beast
by Shreyash C.

The sea beast came out
of the water!

“Quick! Everyone run! It can
spit water!”
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well, you gotta
figure it out.”
“Uhh. I can’t do that.”

Jose R.

My monster is a Lava Monster. It lives
in a volcano. The land is called Lava Land.

Lava Monster can control the volcano. It can
throw fire balls and it can squish you by wrapping
you around in his lava. His
color  is black and red and he eats
anything in its path.

Dennis G.

The Man in the Wind
Monster. I saw him and
he disappeared in thin
air.

Ice Cream Monster
by Avani R.

The Ice Cream Monster lives in Uranus.
She always wants to be fabulous.
She always has fun while sitting in the
sun. She eats a ton of pizza
and she is a millionaire. She never
melts away
some may say.
