Lines Full of Wishes

For our 2nd session, Swift 2nd graders shared what they remembered from our first visit, and some students even hoped that we would read “The Tiger Who Wore White Gloves” again! Instead, I shared the poem, “Collecting Words” by Pat Mora, and illustrated by Raul Colón. This gave us a chance to look at some great illustrations made from words, as well as talk about growing our vocabularies. We also examined the poem’s lines and stanzas. In keeping with Chicago Poetry Center’s lesson 1-5 curriculum, the first poems students wrote for the residency were “Wish Poems.” Enjoy!
