Revisions

This was our second-to-last class! The students at Haugan had the fantastic idea of creating a poetry yearbook to remember our year together! Today we worked on creating and decorating our final revisions for the yearbook. Here are a few of the student revisions:
Beacon (an ekphrastic poem)
Joceyln M
I feel alone in the shadows. My face is on fire and
my face is burning into pieces.
I am the flame of a candle and the wax is melting down.
Darkness cannot bring out love
only the brightness can. Hate cannot bring out trust
only love can. I drive out the darkness
and bring in the light. I look at the blue sky.
I feel the wind passing by
as I fade away like dust.
Hello Fall
Ayelin
I’ve always liked the fall better
Trees orange
Like pumpkins
the leaves falling down slowly
like a waterfall
you can hear
the crunching of the leaves
while you walk.
listening to the music
you love most
as you walk away.
Birds waking up
chirping while you
wake up too.
Goodbye Summer.
Hello Fall.
Pearls
Karina
How pretty they are
How it shimmers in this light pink color
It shows this simple yet classic type of jewelry.
I wonder what it hides
Such beauty
with such a hard meaning.
I wonder more how the oyster feels
this pain it holds
how damaged they feel
with the parasite hurting it.
Just like a bad memory
having that memory rushing back
slowly and painful.
Creating something pretty
hiding the truth.
In the end you get both things
and pretty pearl
and something to eat.
