Rachel Mennies & Sara Henning to read Sept. 24

Join the Poetry Center of Chicago on September 24 for the next installment of the Six Points Reading Series. Admission is free at the Garland Room on the first floor of the Chicago Cultural Center.

This month, we’re pleased to feature Rachel Mennies and Sara Henning! Curated and hosted by Danielle Susi.

SARA HENNING is the author of A Sweeter Water (Lavender Ink, 2013), as well as two chapbooks, Garden Effigies (Dancing Girl Press, 2015) and To Speak of Dahlias (Finishing Line Press, 2012). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in such journals as Crazyhorse, Quarterly West, Green Mountains Review, Crab Orchard Review, and RHINO. Winner of the 2015 Lynda Hull Memorial Poetry Prize, she is currently a doctoral student in English and Creative Writing at the University of South Dakota, where she serves as associate editor of Sundress Publications.

RACHEL MENNIES is the author of The Glad Hand of God Points Backwards, winner of the 2013 Walt McDonald First-Book Prize in Poetry, and the chapbook No Silence in the Fields. Her poetry has appeared recently in Black Warrior Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Drunken Boat, Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, and elsewhere, and has been reprinted at Poetry Daily. Mennies currently serves as the series editor (2015-) for the Walt McDonald First-Book Prize in Poetry at Texas Tech University Press. She teaches writing at Carnegie Mellon University and serves as a member of AGNI’s editorial staff.

 

Our next event will take place on October 8, 2015, when The Poetry Center of Chicago will host a reading and conversation with Maryrose Carroll–visual artist, writer, and wife of the late poet Paul Carroll (co-founder of the Poetry Center).
