In Ms. Mild-Thomas’s 6th grade class, we read Ada Limon’s “How to Triumph like a Girl” and discussed how through using the metaphor of a horse, the poem told us something new about the speaker. We talked about our own personalities and how there are parts of us not everyone sees. We wrote poems that used animal metaphors to give a glimpse into who we are and what we care about! The students did an excellent job!
I Feel Like….
-Gracie A
I feel like a Wild horse racing
through the meadows with her
herd freely.
I feel like a racehorse running
through the finish line just for
her to do it over and over again
never stopping.
I feel like a fox cub freely but
carefully playing with her cubs
I feel like a wild horse easy going
and gentle with people I know but
shy and uneasy with strangers.
I feel like a wolf cub gentle but also rough
while playing with her siblings.
What Animal am I?
-K’Mya P
I like the scorpions and how defensive they are
And protective. like a puppy
Sometime being hard headed like I’m playful about myself
Soft as a baby flamingo
Like I feel in my favorite soft blanket .
Like a pretty rare flamingo and it’s very quiet.
I’m Like….
-Hilari M
I’m like a bird because I like moving around a lot,
I’m like a sloth in the mornings or whenever I have to clean,
I’m like a monkey because I sometimes like to play around,
I’m like a dog sometimes friendly and sometimes mean,
I can sometimes be like a snake, very dangerous when I’m mad
I would like to be like a bird,
how they make things look easier,
how they fly around,
without no one stopping them,
or telling them what to do,
how they’re free,
but I’ll probably be exhausted after flying around a lot.
