A Heart is Like a Beating Drum!

After writing poems about wishes and sounds, we turned to something more challenging for our 3rd lesson:  comparisons.   As poets live in the world, and observe what goes on – both inside of themselves as well as outside – they notice what different things have in common.  This is called comparing. Bret Harte 2nd graders were up for the challenge! So, we spent our time together reading and talking about comparisons such as: “a person’s whisper is like a soft pillow,” and “my cat’s eyes are like peanuts.” Some students said that my hair was “fluffy like a stuffed animal’s! ”
