This week the 3rd-5th graders of Hale’s after school poetry explored similes. On Tuesday we read the poem “Colors Of The World,” by Pablo H. a student from Moos Elementary . In his poem Pablo describes various colors using similes, comparing colors to different things using the words “like” or “as.” Yellow like a comic book/ Pink as a pig/ Orange as a fruit that is juicy. Together we wrote a group poem about colors we see in our communities.
On Wednesday we read the poem “Ode To Blue,” by Eloise V. a student from Shoesmith Elementary. In her poem Eloise uses similes to explain why blue is her favorite color. You can be as dark as the bottom of the ocean/ You can be as light as a summer sky. Inspired by Eloise’s poem students wrote poems about the colors they love.
