7th Grade- New Words Pt. 2

Were you as excited as I was to read this week’s New Word poems by our Foster Park Elementary students? Here is Part 2 of of poems inspired by Jose Olivarez’s poem Hecky Naw.

 

Foe’ nem

wearing a durag

talking in slang

walking down the street

wearing a chain pants hanging

low walking down the block 

in the ghetto dapping up

to agree what yo homeboy

is sayin’ bein’ loud bein’

calm staying young on foe’nem

On foe’nem they time was 

just begun

Aleyah T. 

 

When going nuts just because someone

need a private section to talk 

crazy. To brag about living the luxury

but stuck in the hood. To say 

they have lots and lots of cars and

big houses. Just because they love

to brag. They say so  much about 

having so much money

and always say, yes mom. They say 

they don’t care about death or ‘nun

but scared of ghosts and spirits

Said he didn’t cry when someone

got hurt, but cry when you think 

about them.
