The Sonnet: Not Just a Love Song, taught by Debra Bruce (English 491)

The sonnet keeps showing up—in classrooms, sonnet websites, subversively in-your-face e-zines as well as hallowed literary journals, and of course at weddings. This centuries-old dynamo, described by Phillis Levin as a “chamber of sudden change” is irresistible even to the most irreverent and anti-traditional contemporary poets who write “smashed” or “shattered” versions of the form—sonnets nonetheless.
