Days of Our Lives
Submitted by Larry Dean on March 12, 2009 - 5:06pm.

Daylight Savings Time began on March 8th. The sun now sets later, spring break is right around the corner, and the school year is drawing to a close. Before you know it, summer will be here! But just as quickly, summer gives way to autumn and the cycle begins anew. Philip Larkin's Days addresses the precariousness of life, asking, "What are days for?" Students pondered this question, as well as early memories, the future, and making time stand still in this week's terrific poems.

What Are Days For? To Stop the Time
Kate B.

The last time when
I was 5 years old
I wanted to stop
time. Stop! Oh my
gosh! I stop time.
I will go to the
store and get a soccer
ball & stuff for my
shark report. OK. Time
to start the time
again. Wait! I forgot
to get a brand new
bike. Also I forgot
to hit my brother.

When I'm 100
Megan H.

When I'm 100 I'm going to
live in LA, California
and have 6 dogs, 5 bunnies,
3 cats and probably 1 penguin.
I'll wear what I want anytime I want,
do my nails, go to the beach,
swim all day and at last...
buy millions and trillions of shoes.

In time I was in school.
In time I was 5 years old.
In time I was in preschool.
In time I was playing in
kindergarten.
In time I was in 1st grade.
In time I was in 2nd grade.
In time I was in 3rd grade.

Time Stop!
Rynia K.

Time stop! Wow I stopped
time, I can do anything I want!
OK, let's start. Oh! I can't
be late for school! Maybe
a little bit of ice cream
from the ice cream man.
Na na na boo boo!!!!!! I could
go back home and get my
bike instead of walking!
Hmm! OK! Now I could
play at the park and spill
juice on the person I hate.
Splash! Oops my bad! Not!
Yeah! I could chew gum in
school and write on the
board! OK I think I'm done!
Time back! OK now that
was fun!

If Time Stopped
Cathlyn L.

If time stopped the sun wouldn't
move a bit, not even a blink.
The sun wouldn't move A BIT!!!!
The sun would just stay still and if
it didn't move you'd just do
the same thing and would not
need a lamp, electricity light,
and a flashlight cause there's
already light from THE!!!!SUN!!!!

Time Flying Fast
Lilyon B.

I wake up
at 7 o'clock
in the morning
but I am sleepy.

I just stayed
awake I want
to watch TV.

Then my mom and dad
said I could
play outside
with my friend.

I played
then I took
a shower
and ate lunch.

Then I took
a nap at 2:05.
And I woke up.

It was 2:30.
I called my
friend to
come with

her mother
because my
dad was at work.

So my mom
can spend
time with
her mother.

Then we
ate dinner.
And it was
already 7:00.

My friend
slept over.

The Change of Life
Allison C.

Back in 2000
everything seemed so
big now it's so small
cause life changes
before your eyes
you're old in your eyes
but young in your heart.

Freezing Time
Isabella K.

Time stops,
why?
I wait,
I wait 5 minutes,
it's still 12:00 pm.

It has to be 12:05 pm.
Since time froze
I'll go outside and come back at 12:05 pm.

I'll watch TV and stop at 12:05 pm
I'll eat popcorn and stop at 12:05 pm.

My mom comes home,
it's 10:00 pm.
Now I throw up.

What's Different?
Divya P.

When I was six the house looked
huge. When I am 38 I come back
to the house and ask what's different?
Of course the house didn't reply. I go
in the house. It's so small, my bedroom
is now the size for an elf. The house
shrank. I ask, "What's different, why'd you
get so old?" Then I noticed that the
house wasn't old. It was me.

Staying in the back seat,
crying my tears,
the old house fading in the distance.

I don't know why or when,
but all I know is that I didn't want to move.
I wanted to stay in my old house,
but the car was kidnapping me away.

What Would 10 Years Do?
Calvin L.

If 10 years went by,
everything would change.
A window on a wall
might change in size.
Shirts 10x bigger
could fit me perfectly.
My old jeans
shrunk to my knees.
Mini books I used,
might be too small.
If 10 years went by,
everything would change.

Go Back and Stay
David M.

Time, time is valuable.
I would be going back to
when I was in Las Vegas.
I would be the same age
I am now. I would love
to relive that moment.
I love four wheelers and boots
over and over again. I loved
being free again and again.

Time
Minh N.

Time, old old time
reminds me number 5
talking to ice cream man

Riding down slide
smelling the sweet barbecue air
enjoying the aroma
delicious tasting food.

Milad Q.

Time is present
time is past
time is future
time equals moment
moment means happiness
happiness is life
life is time.
Now there isn't
anything to stop
time and life
except certain death.
You curse time
because your life is
over but it
is not over
for your curse
may reach you
to something worse
than death.

What is time?
Time is time to
stop time.
Tick tock the
time is ticking.
What is time?
