Intro to Poetry Writing
 |
8-Week Workshop
Blending lecture, written exercises, and feedback on work from the Poet-In-Residence and your peers, this workshop provides our students with a firm grounding in all the basics of poetry writing. Participants in this workshop will:
- Meet weekly with our Poet-in-Residence
- Write two-six poems
- Participate in lectures on basic poetry craft and components
- Participate in writing exercises
- Present work for critique (two times)
Our Intro to Poetry Writing workshop is for anyone interested in learning about how to write poetry or anyone who wants to brush up on fundamentals. This is a great opportunity for you if:
- You’re sure what type of writing you want to do
- You’re brand new to writing or just getting back to it
- You’re seeking a low-pressure, collegial environment
There is no previous experience or education required to take our Intro course. This is a great opportunity for beginners, but modeled for writers who have never taken a poetry workshop before.
Cost:
- $350 per student per 8-week workshop (Only $43.75 per student per class)
- Members receive a 10% discount
Schedule:
- 8-week intensive workshop that meets for 1.5 hours each week
- Classes are held at 7pm Tuesday nights (7pm to 8:30pm)

Location:

Teacher:
- Brian Russell earned his MFA at the University of Houston, where he served as a Teaching Fellow and Poetry Editor for Gulf Coast. His poems have appeared in Epoch, Quarterly West, LIT, Hanging Loose, Harpur Palate, and Columbia Poetry Review, among others. He's been awarded an Academy of American Poets Prize and twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, in 2007 and 2008.
