Days of Our Lives
Submitted by Larry Dean on February 26, 2009 - 4:35pm.
Daylight Savings Time begins March 8th. The sun sets later, spring break is right around the corner, and the school year is drawing to a close. Before you know it, summer will be here! But just as quickly, summer gives way to autumn and the cycle begins anew. Philip Larkin's Days addresses the precariousness of life, asking, “What are days for?” Students pondered this question, as well as early memories, the future, and making time stand still in this week's amazing poems.

Why Time? Terria C.
The days with time back back and time when I was five I did the worse thing someone could do I ran away it was just across the street.
As I was seven I climbed a gate and shattered my knee that was the time I didn't like.
And as I turn eleven time will get as scarcer and scarcer day by day or time by time long times ago.
What Are Days For? Valerie G.
Days are where we tell time.
They come, and wake us up.
Time and time all over and over.
We are happy to be in.
Where can we live without time?
Ah, solving the time brings the sun and moon, in their long days. Moving all around in the sky.

I will freeze time and grab Skittles. I will freeze time and live life like never before and break rules but when it's all over I'll put everything the same.
I'll freeze time and put the bad people behind time and get the things. I'll leave money in the hands of the poor. That's what I will do if I freeze time.

I still remember when I was little. I had a little party and I was so tired that when everybody left my dad was cleaning and my mom was right there eating cake with Jello. Then she served me some Jello. I started to talk while eating my Jello. I didn't realize that they were recording it. I was laughing and talking and walking and eating.
Time Goes Fast Christian D.
Time goes fast. Just one thing when you are young you're
thinking when you did where are you going to die
where are you going to be buried who are you going to be married where
are you going to live?
Now you're 85 not thinking about this and got shot in the heart by a gang
dead under water.
Time Maria J.
Why does time go slow and fast? Why do we change through time? Can I be a baby again? Could I go back and say yes to the things I said no? Could I change my world? Could I change myself? Why do things happen through the time? Could I change the way I am? Could I change people that are mean to me and other people? Why does it happen? Why does time pass? Why?

What is time for? I know time is great. But why I wonder.
Time is not fair it goes and goes never stops. But why!
Why is time why if it never stops. I wonder if I can make time stop. So I can play and play and not clean.
But I can't and I still wonder why.
Freeze Time Manuel V.
Everything is still, even the tiger. When someone throws a ball it stays up.
An airplane stops, you can see it all day. A bowling ball rolling down the alley, it hits the pins then it freezes.
Ice cream can never melt if you lift it in the sun.

Time, where does it go. I still remember when I was 1 year old. In Mexico with my great-great-grandfather. He died a few years later. I still remember his grave. My little sister didn't even know him as much as I do. I remember when I was 7 years old. My great- grandmother was very nice to me. But then she got sick & died. I still remember her sweet voice saying "Come & hug me." I miss both of them. I sometimes cry now & then. In my heart I still love them.

As I walk down the street wearing my pink dress, with white shoes that when I walk you can hear click, click. I don't really know the people. Many faces walking in front and in back of me. I don't know where we are going and I don't know why. All I know is that I'm scared of all the faces.

Time, time is a gift, a gift of one opportunity. Time has some ups and downfalls. One tip I give you is enjoy your life until it's gone. I am enjoying mine, are you?

If I can freeze time I would steal a game, and the Wii, and eat lots of pizza.
I will have lots of houses. I would get a Monster Truck and ride everywhere.

I remember the time when I was two. I remember the time when I saw the first dog. I remember the time I played with him. I remember that he was a puppy. My best friend dog. But the time went by. I did not see that dog no more. And I am 11 now. I wish I could go back in time. I could see him again. I watch.
Time Lizayra R.
Time sometimes goes fast and sometimes goes slow. All I could say is enjoy time, time is precious.
Don't be scared of death because we're just here to visit, no one comes here to stay, enjoy the time you're here, time never ends.
Oh, dear time I wish you don't change to not say good-bye.
Time Erica V.
What's time? Time is life. Time is what we live. Without time there are no schedules, no periods of the day.
Time is what we go through, we breathe time on time. What will we do without you!

When I lived in my other house everything was so big. When I was young I thought the clock was a toy so I used to play with it playing time travel. When I put the hand back to different years the numbers means how many years back you can go back in time to see how the past looked like and the time machine had broken. And you can never come back to the present and never see your family again or your friends you have to repeat all of those years again.
Untitled Ariane M.
The clock goes round and round. Like your life will go day by day. I will go to college and study photography and painting. My camera would always be click! Click! My paintings selling downtown. I will still be painting. The clock will go clickity clock clickity clock!!!! hour by hour and day by day and on and on.
Untitled Vanessa Q.
The clock strikes midnight and there it goes...
You're gone and there's no coming back.
The clock is broken.
Your time is up...
day by day your life will go on.
If...

I see the fence big when I was 5 years old the backyard big as my house the dog almost like a tree. My mom like a giant and the bed like a cloud. Now when I'm 10 years old I think grow down. The backyard small, I think it's shrinking. The dog got too old. My mom I'm almost tall to her. Now I can climb the bed.

Times times never end. So we age from then to when. Times times you help us so. You age from right to left. Everybody doesn't know time is precious to the heart. Times times I dearly love you so. Times times you never end. You go from there to end. But there is one more thing you need to know. Don't waste it playing video games. Spend it with your family. So just one tiny thing don't waste it doing something wrong. Just be careful where you're at you might see life to death.
Time Lenin E.
Time is something you can't sell, nor you can't buy it, but you could spend it by having fun and enjoying it.
Time is something that you can enjoy. You can't rewind it, nor you can't fast forward it, but you could play it.
Time is something you can read. You can't judge it, but by the time it took you to read it, time passed speeding by flying like a kite.
Memories Stephanie S.
I remember my life since I was 3 years old.
I used to go to the park, me and my brother.
My family used to live on the North Side. I used to have fun but now I am older.
I have to study, homework, clean, no more fun. More responsibility.
Really life has changed ever since.
Untitled Liliana S.
If I could have frozen time I could help other people that are in trouble, and go to new places and discover the special history about Chicago, time is precious never waste time you have, I would like to freeze time to think before I made these mistakes.

If I Could Stop Time Susan E.
If I could stop time I would find all the toys that my brother hid and I would hide his instead. I will hide candies so my brother won't find them.
Untitled Jakari G.
Just stop, think, of what you want to do. Help someone in a time of crisis, rewind time to change something. To help yourself of the things you love. Pause your time to prevent some- thing from happening. Remember your youth, think of your future, picture yourself, as old as can be, picture your youth and the future you, holding hands and running.
Untitled Angel J.
The world is coming to the end and we will die and I want to go back in the future and save the whole world and I will come to be the president of the world
Time Jessie P.

Untitled Emily V.
What is life for? Life is to live, love, and of course laugh. Ask me what happened yesterday you might not get the answer, ask me what happened 3, 4 years ago and you will get the answer. I remember like it was just yesterday... me chasing my cousin all over the house till we got in trouble of course, the happiness is what stays with you for the rest of your life.
