Movies play a big part in most people's lives, whether they watch them on TV, DVD, computer screens, or the silver screen. What's interesting is the impression they make, culturally as well as aesthetically, on younger viewers. For something a bit different this week, and because the Oscars are approaching, we read Noir by A.E. Stallings. Students were asked about who and/or what is in the poem, when and where it takes place? They quite impressively deduced, because it is a black and white movie, that it had to be a long time ago, and as they looked deeper into Stallings' poem figured out that it had to be at least seventy years old.

After discussing it in further detail, they were asked to write their own movie poems. Some suggested themes were favorite films, movie characters, or imagining that they were famous actors or actresses receiving an award.

Early morning jumping
up in the sea, going
down, eating fish;
saving people, down
you go, having fun,
down you go, discovering
fish and other creations,
so:

look around, you see
that boy that loves
me playing around, listening
to you, boy, girl, brother, to
parents that are taking care
of me too.

Late at Night

I watch Spider-Man.
It has a lot of action,
it is entertaining.
It has a lot of fighting.
A high schooler turns half
human half spider when
he gets bit by a
spider. He becomes
a superhero and
names himself Spider-Man.

Late at night,
watching a movie in black and white.
There's a scientist who
has animals in a big room,
does an experiment on a
spider.
The spider grows big,
the scientist tries to
make the spider small
but he can't.

The Film
Elizabeth F.

Everybody's waiting in their
seat, shaking their feet. Wearing
their glasses while time passes.
Waiting through the previews
and hearing the reviews. While
the movie is playing and
some people are saying.
In the movie the guy is
creeping and in the room
people are sleeping. Before
you know it the movie is
done and you realize you're
experience is done.

I saw a movie, it's
called Clique. I thought
it was gonna be boring,
but it was actually good.
It's about these girls who
are mean and this other
girl came along. She
wasn't pretty much like
them. She wanted to
fit in but the girls
didn't let her because
she wasn't like them.

The movie is named Titanic.
It's about when a ship
was going to take people
to America. The people
were from London. It was
a day that the world
will never forget. Half
of the people were
poor and the other
was rich. Then when
the ship was going the
ship got struck. By an
iceberg.

As I watch and imagine a movie I see,
I imagine a dinosaur after me,

suddenly I'm in space watching a big battle,
soon I will see penguins doing a waddle,

soon I will go to bed and fall asleep.
Hopefully I don't imagine a monster going
                          BLEEP!!

The Spiderwick

There are two kinds, their brothers
and their sisters. Their names are
Simon, Jared, and Mallory. They
found out that there are animals
that want a book and the book
was found by Simon. He went
to a little attic in the top of the
house that they live in and
around the house there is a
circle that the animals that
want the book can't pass through
the circle. Simon found a little
elf that eats cookies with honey
and the animals are invisible.
You could just see it with
a little glass.

group of people trying to
rob the mall. And it
is his job to try to
stop them from doing that.
There is also a girl that
is in love with him and
he loves her back and he is
also trying to save her.

I think Shrek is a good and funny
movie because Eddie Murphy is
funny.

That part where
he's on the mud
he brushes his
teeth with
mud or manure.

O and also
the donkey
he is hilarious.
I think its a
classic to win
an Oscar.

Late at night,
Looking at the stage,
And all around are
Fancy tables and chairs,
And fancy dresses or suits.
Everyone sits down and
The curtain goes up.
Someone is on the stage.
The first award was for
The best comedy...
Kung Fu Panda won,
Jack Black made
The longest speech
I ever heard.
If I was twenty then,
I will still remember
That night.

Pearl Harbor
Guadalupe B.

I remember when they attacked by
surprise. When the bombs were shot and
the people cried. The pictures stuck in
my mind. The boats sunk in my eyes.
The Arizona is under the sea. The
people in there I cannot see. I helped
the people in need. I saw many
people bleed. It was a sad day in my
life. It was a horrible sight.

Thank you very much for supporting
me, and voting for me. I would
really want to thank my fans,
and the director who filmed the
whole movie. I would like to thank
my dad, mom for supporting me, and
helping me get to where I am
today and going with me to my
movie premiere. Uh, uh, uh, excuse
me for crying, thank you.
